Pato O’Ward began his racing career in karting, where he quickly stood out at both national and international levels, winning multiple championships in Mexico and the United States, including titles in Easykart, Rotax, and the SKUSA SuperNationals.
In 2013, he made the transition to single-seater racing, competing in several junior formula categories across the Americas and Europe. After stints in Formula Renault and Formula 4, he established himself in the United States through the Road to Indy program. In 2018, he achieved a major career milestone by winning the Indy Lights Championship, securing nine victories during the season and earning his promotion to the IndyCar Series.
O’Ward made his IndyCar debut later that year and, following a transitional period that included appearances in Formula 2, Japan’s Super Formula, and the Red Bull Junior Team, he joined Arrow McLaren full-time beginning in the 2020 season.
Since then, he has emerged as one of the most competitive drivers in IndyCar. He has earned multiple race wins and pole positions, was named Rookie of the Year at the Indianapolis 500 in 2020, won the A.J. Foyt Cup in 2021, and finished runner-up at the Indianapolis 500 in both 2022 and 2024. In 2021, he remained in championship contention until the final race, ultimately finishing third overall.
Alongside his single-seater success, O’Ward has also excelled in endurance racing, highlighted by his victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2022 in the LMP2 class.
Today, Pato O’Ward continues to compete in IndyCar with Arrow McLaren, firmly established as one of Mexico’s leading motorsport figures and a consistent contender for race wins and championship honors.
